High-speed door repair starts with the installed design
A costly mistake on a high-speed door call is assuming it works like the ordinary bay door down the aisle. Describe the installed system, not just how fast it moves.

Two things follow from that. A high-speed door is controller-driven, so "it won't respond" can be the sensor, the controller, the drive or the power, and they look identical from across the room. And many high-speed doors are designed to break away on impact — the curtain is meant to come out of its guides rather than be destroyed — and then be re-set into them, sometimes automatically on the next cycle.
Where these doors are in Ontario facilities
High-speed doors are used at cooler and freezer openings, food and beverage production rooms, high-traffic interior openings between zones, and exterior openings where traffic and environmental separation both matter. Describe what the opening separates and whether temperature control is affected.

Keep people and powered equipment clear, don't force the curtain, and don't keep cycling a door that hasn't properly re-set. Use your facility's own process for taking the opening out of use.

Controllers, sensors and activation
A high-speed door has a controller — the brain — and one or more activation devices that tell it to open. Activation can be a motion sensor, a floor loop, a pull cord, a push button, a remote, or a signal from a forklift system.
A failure to respond can involve the activation device, controller, drive or supply. Tell the provider what had already happened when the fault appeared; do not test additional controls or approach the opening to narrow it down.
If the door has a fault code or a message on a control panel, that's genuinely useful — read it off the display if you can see it from a safe position. Don't open the control cabinet.
Line-voltage wiring raises a separate scope question under C-10 electrical. Ask which classification covers that part of the work.
Powered commercial doors need the protection and compatible controls specified for the installed system. Breakaway and self-repair: what it means when a forklift hits one
Some high-speed fabric doors are built to release their curtains from the guides on impact rather than take the full force. Re-threading and reset behavior are model-specific; the feature does not prove that a door which has been hit is undamaged.
Report the impact and what was observed afterward. A qualified provider can assess whether the curtain, guides and breakaway components need repair.
What not to do: keep cycling it to see if it fixes itself. If the curtain isn't seating properly, repeated operation can worsen damage. Report the impact, say whether the door has tried to re-set, and stop there.
Air, temperature and the cost of an open door
At a cooler or freezer opening, a stuck-open high-speed door can compromise temperature control. Warm, humid air entering a cold space can contribute to condensation and ice. Report any existing temperature alarm or visible ice without approaching the failed door.
That's not a reason to panic, but it is the reason to put it in the first sentence of the call. "Stuck open at our freezer" tells a provider something completely different from "a door's broken."
Follow your own facility's procedure for a temperature excursion. We aren't a food safety service and we won't pretend to be one.

Repair this high-speed door or replace it?
Ask whether the curtain, guides, drive and controller can be restored as a compatible system using manufacturer-supported parts. Replacement deserves a separate comparison when parts are unavailable, impact damage affects the assembly, or the installed design no longer suits the traffic or temperature boundary. Include controls, protection, installation and any required approvals in the scope—not just the curtain price.

High-speed door questions
A forklift hit it and it popped out of the guides. Is it broken?
Impact does not tell you the repair scope by itself. Some fabric doors have breakaway features, but reset behavior depends on the model and damage. Report the hit and the observed position, and do not keep cycling the door to see whether it re-seats.
Why is our cooler door icing up at the edges?
A qualified provider may assess seals, fit, operating time and the conditions on either side of the opening. Warm, humid air meeting cold surfaces can form condensation or ice, but that does not establish the cause at your door. Report the ice and any temperature-control effect without trying to remove it from the mechanism.
Can a torn fabric curtain be repaired, or does the whole panel go?
Ask whether the manufacturer permits a repair for that curtain material and damage location. A compatible repair may be possible, or a replacement curtain may be needed if damage affects the guides, seams or structural features. Ask the provider to explain the proposed scope rather than assuming every small tear is repairable.
Is a high-speed door the same as a roll-up door?
Some high-speed doors roll up; others use a different travel path. Conventional rolling steel doors and high-performance doors can both have operators and spring counterbalances, so those features alone do not identify the family.
