- Registration. Idaho contractors register with the state. Check the number on DOPL's search. The under-$2,000 exemption is narrow and doesn't cover part of a bigger project (§ 54-5205).
- Operators. If the job includes electrical work, contracting it takes an Idaho electrical license and a permit bought first (§ 54-1005). Meridian and Nampa issue their own electrical permits, and Caldwell accepts applications through its Building Safety portal. The state handles them in unincorporated Canyon County.
- Codes. Idaho is on the 2018 building and fire codes (DOPL).
