Idaho rules for new and replacement doors

Registration. Idaho contractors register with the state (§ 54-5204). The $2,000 casual-and-minor exemption is narrow. It doesn't apply to work that's part of a larger project or to contracts split to stay under it (§ 54-5205). Look up a registration on DOPL's search.
Electrical. Contracting electrical work takes an Idaho electrical license (§ 54-1002), and "All electrical permits shall be purchased before work is commenced" (IDAPA 24.39.10). Meridian and Nampa issue their own electrical permits, and Caldwell accepts applications through its Building Safety portal. The state handles them in unincorporated Canyon County. In Nampa, permitted wiring is installed by "a state licensed journeyman electrician employed by a state licensed electrical contractor" (Nampa).
Codes. Idaho is on the 2018 International Building Code and the 2023 National Electrical Code (DOPL adopted codes). A move to the 2024 building codes was rejected by the House Business Committee on February 17, 2026 (minutes).
Public buildings. A public works project estimated at $100,000 or more needs an Idaho Public Works Contractor license (§ 54-1903).
Permit offices. None of the offices we could check publishes a door-specific permit rule. A changed wall opening is the kind of work to ask about first. Use the building's parcel, not its mailing city.
