The practical read: a coastal label does not establish a corrosion category or a hardware life. The American Galvanizers Association explains that many North American marine exposures fall within C3. Ask the provider to assess the actual corrosion on guides, fasteners and brackets, and whether manufacturer-approved finishes or hardware suit the exposure at your opening.
If a quote cites a salt-spray test, ask what finish was tested and what the manufacturer actually warrants for your application. Test hours alone do not establish the service life of your door (ASTM's published explanation of salt-spray testing, section 3.2, checked September 19, 2026).

Repair or replace a struck curtain?
The factors: how many slats are affected; whether guides, brackets and the barrel are still true; whether that profile is still manufactured; and whether a replacement would bring a permit and a current design pressure into play. A curtain with a handful of damaged slats on a sound assembly is usually a repair. A curtain that has been hit three times and is running in spread guides is usually telling you something else.

How do I tell a rolling steel door from a sectional door?
A rolling steel door coils around a barrel above the opening. A sectional door is made of hinged horizontal panels that travel on tracks; the track layout varies with the opening. Use what you already know about its normal movement or can see safely. Do not operate a damaged door just to identify it.
A forklift bent the curtain. Can slats be replaced individually?
Often, yes — if the slat profile is still manufactured and the guides, brackets and barrel are still true. The catch is usually the profile. On an older door, a discontinued slat is what turns a slat repair into a curtain conversation.
How do I know if my roll-up door is fire-rated?
A visible fire label identifies a rated assembly; a fusible link or drop-release box is also worth mentioning. Report only what is already visible from a safe position, and do not infer a fire rating from the door's location alone. If you are not sure, say so on the call.
The chain hoist turns but the door doesn't move. What is that?
