What makes a door "high-speed"?
Speed, and a specific amount of it. DASMA defines a high-speed door as "a nonswinging door used primarily to facilitate vehicular access or material transportation and having an automatic closing device, with an opening rate of at least 32 inches per second and a closing rate of at least 24 inches per second" (DASMA TDS #455).
That speed is why they fail differently from ordinary doors. They are built for frequent cycling, some models have impact-recovery features, and they are often doing a job — keeping cold in, keeping dust out, separating two rooms — that stops the moment the door does.

Safety, kept short. No procedures here. Keep people and equipment clear of the opening, do not force the curtain or try to reseat a breakaway by hand, and take the opening out of use through your facility's normal process.
Cold-storage and controlled-temperature openings
A freezer or cooler door is a different service call, because the door is doing thermal work as well as traffic work. Frost forms where warm air meets cold, seals stiffen, and a door that does not close properly puts temperature-controlled stock at risk.

What moves the number: curtain size and material; whether the breakaway system and drive survived the impact or only the curtain did; control and drive availability for that make, which on high-speed doors is often the long pole; cooler or freezer access, and whether the opening can be taken out of service; whether product has to be moved or protected; the diagnostic and travel charge; and lead time on curtain material.

Which San Antonio permit and electrical checks matter?
A repair, a replacement and changes to an opening or power supply are different scopes. Ask the provider who will confirm the permit requirements and handle the work that needs a trade license.
San Antonio's Minor Commercial Repair Permit application lists door replacement and separates mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits. The city's ordinary-repair provision excludes structural, egress, electrical and other safety-affecting work; ask DSD about the exact job through BuildSA. For non-exempt electrical work, Texas requires licensed persons working through a licensed electrical contractor; verify that credential in TDLR's license search. High-speed door repair questions
A forklift hit the fast door and it opened up. Is that supposed to happen?
Many high-speed doors have breakaway designs, and some models reinsert the curtain automatically. Visible damage, failure to reseat or recurring faults need qualified inspection of the breakaway system, curtain and drive. Do not force the curtain back by hand.
Why does it keep losing its position?
That is what a provider works out on site. It can sit in the position system, the drive, the controls or the curtain itself, and guessing from a description does nobody any good.
Is a high-speed door the same as a roll-up door?
A door can be both: roll-up describes its movement, while high-speed describes its operating characteristics. DASMA's definition includes an automatic closing device, an opening rate of at least 32 inches per second and a closing rate of at least 24 inches per second. Our freezer door won't seal. Is that the door or the refrigeration?
Both are worth checking, and they are different trades. The door side covers the curtain, seals, frame and controls. Anything inside the refrigeration system belongs to a refrigeration contractor.
