How this area is organized
The Reno metropolitan statistical area is Washoe, Storey and Lyon counties under the current federal delineation. The July 2023 OMB delineation includes Lyon, which contains Fernley. That's a research boundary, not a drive radius.
These are places facilities can call from. The independent provider confirms the address and whether it can take the job.
Washoe County
Reno — the whole city, including downtown, the east and north industrial districts, and the Mill Street corridor. Permits through City of Reno Development Services.
Stead and the North Valleys — Stead, Lemmon Valley, Golden Valley and Cold Springs, along the US-395 north corridor. Some parcels are in Reno; others are unincorporated Washoe County. Give the actual address for the repair request and confirm the parcel when choosing a permit office.
Sparks — the city itself, plus the industrial district east of Pyramid Way. Its own building department, separate from the authority for TRIC parcels. → Sparks page
Spanish Springs — unincorporated Washoe County, not City of Sparks, despite the mailing addresses. Flex, commercial and warehouse facilities; confirm the parcel rather than the postal city. → Spanish Springs page
Sun Valley, Verdi, Mogul, Washoe Valley — smaller commercial and light industrial sites. Verdi is the Nevada one; there's a Verdi in California too and they are not the same place.
Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Wadsworth and Nixon — reviewed case by case. Call about commercial loading-dock equipment and building-mounted commercial doors, not marine docks. Give the facility address and any check-in instructions.
Gerlach, Empire, Red Rock/Rancho Haven and Warm Springs — farther Washoe County requests are reviewed case by case. Describe the actual commercial facility and access constraints; the community name alone does not confirm a provider’s travel terms or availability.
For facilities on tribal land, including relevant Nixon and Wadsworth parcels, confirm the responsible tribal and other authorities for the actual project rather than assuming county or state jurisdiction from the mailing address.
Unincorporated Washoe permits: Washoe County Building, 1001 E. Ninth St., Reno, (775) 328-2020.
Storey County
McCarran and the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center — TRIC parcels are in Storey County even when a mailing address uses Sparks or McCarran. USA Parkway extends beyond the park; confirm the parcel’s county for the wider corridor. → Tahoe Reno Industrial Center page
Lockwood and the Patrick corridor — along I-80 east of Sparks. For a Patrick-area facility, give the parcel address and county rather than assuming the road or community name decides jurisdiction.
Virginia City, Gold Hill and Virginia City Highlands — commercial facilities only, reviewed case by case. Give the actual street address and access constraints so the provider can assess the visit.
Storey County permits: Storey County Community Development, 110 E. Toll Rd., Virginia City, (775) 847-0966. Follow the county’s current permitting instructions.
Lyon County
Fernley — its own incorporated city with its own building department, at the I-80 and Alt-95 crossroads. Distribution, manufacturing and the Victory Logistics District. → Fernley page
Dayton, Mound House, Silver Springs, Stagecoach — the US-50 corridor. Light industrial, contractor yards, some larger facilities at Mound House. Unincorporated Lyon County.
Yerington and Mason Valley — reviewed case by case. Give the actual facility address and whether the parcel is inside Yerington or in unincorporated Lyon; start the permit question with the responsible city or county office.
Silver City and Smith Valley, including Smith and Wellington-area requests — reviewed case by case. These remain named Lyon County communities in the request area. Identify the facility, the affected opening and any site-access constraints rather than giving only a valley or community name.
Unincorporated Lyon permits: Lyon County Building, 27 S. Main St., Yerington, (775) 463-6591. Fernley parcels go to the city, not the county.
Outside the metro
Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, Fallon — outside the three-county metro. Reviewed case by case; give the address.
Truckee and eastern Nevada County, California — also reviewed case by case, with one thing worth knowing: work on the California side is licensed by the California Contractors State License Board, not the Nevada board. A Nevada licence does not itself authorize California contracting. CSLB reciprocity concerns application requirements, not automatic permission to work. CSLB reciprocity
The address trap worth knowing
The key jurisdiction distinction: a Reno or Sparks mailing address is not a Reno or Sparks parcel. Large parts of the Truckee Meadows are unincorporated Washoe County. A good number of Tahoe Reno Industrial Center facilities use McCarran or Sparks addresses and are in Storey County.
Reno, Sparks and Washoe County all file through the same portal at onenv.us, which makes this worse — the portal is shared, the reviewing agency isn't. Storey, Fernley and Lyon are separate offices with separate processes.
The street address matters on the repair call so the provider can confirm the facility and availability. It also determines where a permit question goes. You do not need to resolve the permit before calling.
What's in scope anywhere in this area
Commercial loading-dock equipment and building-mounted commercial doors only. Not residential garage doors, boat docks or lifts, truck or trailer cargo doors, pedestrian storefront or automatic-entry doors, glass or hollow-metal walk-through doors and their locks or closers, parts-only orders, or structural concrete, pit or slab work.
This is commercial loading-dock equipment and building-mounted commercial doors—not marine docks or boat lifts. Structural concrete, pit and slab work remain outside the catalogue.
Which service do you need?
Commercial overhead doors · Dock levelers · Roll-up and rolling steel · Dock equipment · Trailer restraints · Rolling fire doors · High-speed doors · Maintenance · Installation
If you reach voicemail, leave the facility address, the door or dock number if known, what's wrong, and a callback number.
Call with the street address
Give the actual street address and say what stopped working. The independent provider confirms whether it can take the job there, and when.
