Is this a high-speed door?
A high-speed door opens and closes far faster than an ordinary commercial door, usually several feet per second, and it is almost always there because the opening is used constantly or because something on one side of it needs to stay separated from the other — temperature, air pressure, dust, or traffic.
You probably have one if: the door opens on a motion sensor, loop or pull cord and is gone before you reach it; the curtain is fabric, rubber or a run of rigid slats or panels; it lives between two production areas, on a cooler or freezer, or at a high-traffic interior opening; and there is a control box on the wall that displays a fault code.

Do not keep cycling a faulting door to see if it clears, and do not reset it repeatedly. A repeated fault is the system reporting an unresolved problem, and further cycling can worsen mechanical damage. A recurring fault needs qualified assessment; repeated resets do not establish the cause. Common places a provider looks include the controller, drive and encoder, the safety devices, the curtain position system and any mechanical bind from an earlier impact. Stop resetting it and report the fault and any code you already have.
Can a torn fabric curtain be repaired, or does it need replacing?
It depends on the tear and the door. Small damage on some models can be repaired; a tear that runs across the curtain, damage near the wind bars or bottom bar, or an older curtain that is already brittle usually points to replacement. What a provider should check first is whether the guides and mounting were knocked out of alignment by the same impact, because bent guides can damage a replacement curtain.
Is a high-speed door the same as a fire door?
No. Speed and environmental separation do not establish a fire rating; the assembly’s listing, fire-rating label and records do. If your door is identified as fire-rated, use rolling fire door repair for its separate repair, testing and records requirements.
