The barrel above a rolling door holds a spring that balances the heavy curtain. That spring is wound under tension. Taking tension off or putting it back takes the right tools and training. A qualified provider handles it. That's why this page tells you what to report, not how to adjust it.
Motors and controls on rolling doors
Many commercial roll-ups run on a motor (an operator) mounted beside the hood. Some also have a chain hoist for manual use. Safety devices like photo eyes and a sensing edge stop the door if something is in the way. UL 325 is the safety standard for door openers. DASMA, the door makers' association, recommends testing photo eyes every month.

- License. CSLB's C-61/D-28 class covers "all types of residential, commercial or industrial doors" (CSLB D-28). New wiring is C-10 (CSLB C-10). Ask which class the company uses and check the CSLB lookup.
- Permits. In the City of Los Angeles, LADBS says "Electrical Permits are required for any electrical work" (LADBS). Long Beach permits run through Long Beach Community Development. LA County Public Works serves unincorporated areas. Carson and Santa Fe Springs direct applicants to city building divisions; City of Industry lists County Building & Safety at City Hall and its BSOP portal. What's the difference between a rolling steel door and a rolling fire door?
