Which piece of dock equipment is it?
The equipment around a loading bay does three jobs. Seals and shelters keep weather out. Bumpers take the hit when a trailer backs in. Lights help the crew and driver see and signal. Say which bay and what you see. You don't need the part name.

Dock seals and shelters
A seal presses against the trailer. A shelter surrounds the trailer without touching it. Both wear out from trailers backing in day after day. Whether a torn one gets repaired or replaced depends on the fabric, the pads, the header and the frame.
Seal or shelter? Seals fit tight and suit docks where trailers are about the same size. Shelters leave the full trailer opening clear and handle more variety. If yours is failing, the company may ask what trailers you get.
What to report.
- Torn fabric or pads, and which side
- A header or top curtain that's sagging or torn
- A frame bent by a trailer
- Daylight, wind or snow getting in around the trailer
- For inflatables: bags that won't fill
Why it matters. Gaps let heat out, cold in, and water onto the dock floor. At a cooler or freezer dock, that means frost and wasted energy. We won't put a number on the savings; that depends on your building.

Dock bumpers
A dock bumper takes the trailer's hit so the dock wall and leveler don't. When bumpers wear down or go missing, trailers start hitting concrete and steel.
What to report. Worn or crushed bumpers, missing bumpers, loose bolts, anchors pulled out of the wall, and any cracked concrete behind them.
Where this call stops. Bumper replacement is in scope. Fixing broken concrete behind a bumper is concrete work. That's outside this service, and the company can tell you if you need a concrete contractor. There are no anchor-drilling steps on this page.
Dock lights, communication lights and wheel chocks

OSHA calls for "measures, such as wheel chocks or sand shoes" to keep the trailer from moving while people are on the dockboard (29 CFR 1910.26), and its forklift rule addresses chocking highway trucks (1910.178(k)(1)). For commercial trucks, OSHA has said federal motor carrier rules take over its chocking requirement (OSHA letter, 2011). Your safety lead sets your chocking procedure. Missing chocks are worth reporting right away. Ask whether a light repair includes electrical work.
