Repair or replace?
For rolling doors, compare the curtain, guides, counterbalance and mounting—not just the bent slat. Localised damage may allow compatible slat replacement. Widespread distortion or unavailable compatible parts can make a new curtain or complete door the better option.

Washington's specialty classification for this equipment is WAC 296-200A-016(39), "Overhead/garage doors" (with overlapping door coverage in (12)) — and the rule text explicitly names "steel roll-up doors" along with the rails and support systems (WAC 296-200A-016). Check the company on L&I Verify.
- Permit. Tacoma’s ordinary-repair exemption does not cover every repair or replacement. Its exclusions include structural, egress, electrical, mechanical and public-safety work. Ask Tacoma PDS (253-591-5030), Pierce County PPW (253-798-3152) for an unincorporated address, or the actual city’s building office about the scope. An unchanged opening does not by itself establish an exemption.
- Electrical. New wiring on a motor operator reaches a separately licensed trade under chapter RCW 19.28, and the electrical permit may come from Tacoma Power rather than your city — its jurisdiction covers properties it serves in Tacoma, Fircrest, University Place, Fife, parts of Steilacoom, Lakewood, and unincorporated Pierce County as far south as Roy (L&I).
