Is this a high-speed door?
A high-speed door — also called high-performance or rapid-roll — is built to open and close fast, over and over. Its rated speed and cycle duty depend on the model. The curtain is usually fabric, though rigid versions exist. You will find them at coolers and freezers, between two working areas inside a plant, and on busy interior openings where a slow door would hold up traffic.

At a cold-storage or food-production opening, report the temperature zones the door separates. Frost, condensation and seal condition can change the assessment; an ordinary warehouse drive-in door is not automatically a suitable replacement.

Do not attempt a reset, re-thread the curtain, or clear ice from the guides. These doors run fast and carry stored energy in the drive. Keep people and traffic clear of the opening and take it out of use through your facility's normal process.
Commercial door operators and entrapment-protection arrangements are addressed by UL 325. Ask the provider to identify the listed operator, the manufacturer’s required sensing devices and the correct operating mode for this installation; do not bypass a sensor to keep production moving.

What affects the price
We can't quote your high-speed door repair from a web page. The price depends on the door, the fault, parts, and access. Here's what to ask before you authorize work.
Sort out the kind of number first: a call-out or diagnostic charge, a starting price, a scoped fixed price for named parts, an estimate before the drive is opened, or a committed quote for a defined scope. On high-speed doors, the specific thing to ask is whether the price covers the whole curtain or a section, because on many of these it is the whole curtain.

Ask what your door actually needs.
Repair it, or is the door in the wrong place?
Worth asking when failures or impacts keep recurring. High-speed doors fail differently when they are doing a job they were not specified for — a cycle rating below the traffic it actually sees, a standard door on a cold opening, or an opening so tight that every forklift clips it.
If the same door gets hit every few weeks, ask whether the repair fixes the door or fixes the cause. Guide protection, a wider opening, or a different activation setup may be the cheaper answer over a year.
The Minnesota rules that touch high-speed door work
A Minnesota residential contractor licence is not the commercial credential to look for. DLI says commercial construction contractors must register unless an applicable exemption applies, such as holding the relevant DLI licence. Registration is not permission to perform work that requires a trade licence. Check the company's legal name in DLI's licence and registration lookup and ask which registration, trade licence and local requirements apply to the actual scope (DLI construction contractor registration).
The drive, controls and sensors make the electrical scope worth separating from the curtain repair. Ask who is licensed for any wiring, which permit or inspection is required, and whether the address has state or municipal inspection. Minor repair and maintenance have specific rules (DLI guidance). Minnesota uses the 2026 NEC for permits filed on or after August 17, 2026 (DLI codes and standards).
Replacing a door in a conditioned opening can also touch the building code. That code is the same statewide (Minn. Stat. § 326B.121); the responsible office, fees and the requirements of the actual opening still need checking. The provider and the issuing office confirm what applies.

High-speed door questions
What makes a door "high-speed"?
Speed and cycle rating. A high-speed door is built to open and close many times faster than a standard commercial door and to do it hundreds of times a day. That changes the drive, the controls, the curtain material and the way it handles being hit. It is a different machine from a coiling steel door, even though both roll up.
Our fabric door gets hit constantly. Is that normal?
Repeated impacts need a cause check. Some high-speed models have breakaway or re-feed features, but that does not make a struck door safe to keep operating. But a door being struck every few weeks is usually telling you something about the opening width, the traffic pattern or the activation setup. Worth asking a provider about the cause, not just the curtain.
Can a torn high-speed curtain be repaired or does it get replaced?
Depends on the door and the tear. Some curtains take a panel repair; on many models the curtain is replaced as a unit. Ask that question directly when you get the price, so the two proposals can be compared on the same scope.
Do you work on freezer doors?
Yes, when it is a building-mounted high-speed or specialized rapid door at a cooler or freezer opening. The door, its seals, its frame heating and its controls are in scope. The refrigeration system and the cold-room panels are not — that is a refrigeration contractor's work.
