Marion

Marion is its own city with its own Building Division and its own adopted building code. Calls about warehouse, shop and dock doors in Marion work the same as in Cedar Rapids. Hiawatha

Hiawatha runs its own Community Development office, and it says every building project needs a permit and inspections. It also notes commercial reviews can take several weeks. That matters most for replacements—see commercial garage door installation.

Robins

Robins is a separate city on Cedar Rapids' north side. Ask Robins city hall about permits for work there.

Fairfax, Big Cedar Industrial Center and Walford

Alliant Energy's 2021 announcement places Logistics Park Cedar Rapids inside the city limits of Fairfax, within Big Cedar Industrial Center, with 39 truck loading bays and four railcar docks. Nearby Walford sits on the Linn–Benton county line. Its address decides which county's rules apply.

Mount Vernon, Ely, Palo, Lisbon and other Linn County partner towns

Linn County's Building Division handles building inspections for Alburnett, Bertram, Center Point, Ely, Lisbon, Mount Vernon, Palo and Springville under agreements with those cities, plus the unincorporated parts of the county. Central City, Coggon, Walker and Prairieburg aren't on the county's list, so ask those cities directly. Call about facilities in any of these towns with the street address.

Benton County

Vinton is the county seat. Benton County says it doesn't require building permits in its unincorporated area, but construction in the 100-year floodplain needs a floodplain permit and the State of Iowa requires electrical permits. Inside a city, ask city hall. That's the rule; the provider and the office confirm what your job needs.

Jones County

Anamosa is the county seat. Jones County's Land Use office handles rural property outside city limits and asks people to contact it before building. Inside a city, ask city hall. Cascade sits partly in Jones County and partly in Dubuque County.

Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty and nearby Johnson County

Johnson County—including Swisher, Shueyville, Solon, North Liberty, Tiffin, Coralville and Iowa City—is part of the separate Iowa City metro area. Call and describe the facility. Those requests are checked case by case, and the provider confirms the address and any travel terms.
