The federal government's Ocala, FL metro area is Marion County alone (OMB Bulletin 23-01, July 2023). Marion County has five cities and towns: Ocala, Belleview, Dunnellon, McIntosh, and Reddick (Florida Department of State). Everything else is unincorporated county.
That split matters for door work. When a permit is required, the relevant city or county office handles it based on the building's location. A mailing address that says "Ocala" doesn't settle it. Many buildings with Ocala addresses sit outside the city.

Places you can call from
Ocala
Ocala is the county seat and the biggest city. Warehouses, distribution centers, and plants sit around the commerce park area near I-75 and U.S. 27, northwest of downtown. Some of those parcels are inside the city and some aren't, so the permit office depends on the exact address.
Belleview

Dunnellon
Dunnellon is in southwest Marion County near the Rainbow and Withlacoochee rivers. It runs its own permit office with online applications through BS&A. Dunnellon also has plenty of boat docks. This line covers commercial loading docks and building doors only.
North Marion: McIntosh, Reddick, Anthony, Sparr, Citra, Fort McCoy, Orange Springs
McIntosh and Reddick are small incorporated towns. Anthony, Sparr, Citra, Fort McCoy, and Orange Springs are unincorporated, so the county permits work there. Farm, equestrian, and agricultural buildings with commercial overhead or roll-up doors are covered.
Southwest Marion: Marion Oaks, the County Road 484 corridor, Summerfield
Marion Oaks and the land along County Road 484 near I-75 are unincorporated. That includes the Florida Crossroads Commerce Park, a large industrial park west of Marion Oaks about two miles from I-75 (park site). Summerfield, to the southeast along U.S. 301, is unincorporated too. The county permits work in all of them.
East Marion: Silver Springs, Silver Springs Shores, Ocklawaha, Weirsdale, Salt Springs
These eastern communities are unincorporated. Silver Springs Shores is a census-designated place, not a city, so the county handles permits.
The Villages (Marion County part)
Part of The Villages sits in Marion County. The rest is in Sumter and Lake counties. Call about commercial buildings in the Marion County part, and check which county the parcel is in before any permit work.
