Roll-up, rolling steel, sheet, or something else?
"Roll-up door" covers several different builds. A coiling door is a curtain that winds into a drum, called a barrel, above the opening. Some curtains are made of linked steel slats. Some are one continuous sheet. A few are fire-rated assemblies that look ordinary until you read the label.

While the door is down: keep people and equipment clear, don't force the curtain, and don't keep cycling it. Take that opening out of service the way your facility normally does. If the building is open to the outside, say so first on the call.
Operators, chain hoists and controls
A rolling door can be hand-chain operated, motor operated, or both. UL 325 is the safety standard covering door and gate operators and the entrapment-protection devices that belong with them. A curtain problem and an operator problem look alike from the floor and are not the same repair, so a qualified provider separates the curtain and barrel from the drive and controls before proposing anything.

Questions about roll-up and rolling-steel door repair
What's the difference between a roll-up door and a sectional door?
A roll-up coils into a drum above the opening — it's one curtain, either linked slats or a continuous sheet. A sectional is built from hinged panels that ride on rollers in vertical tracks. They fail differently and they're repaired by different parts. If you're not sure which you have, describe what the door looks like when it's open: coiled in a roll, or lying flat under the ceiling.
The curtain came out of the guides. Can we put it back?
No. A curtain out of its side guides is under load and can come out of the opening entirely. Take the opening out of service, keep people clear, and describe what you saw. Feeding a curtain back into a guide is a technician job with the right tools, not something to try with a forklift.
How do I know if our rolling door is fire-rated?
By its label and your building records, not by looking at it. A fire-rated rolling door is a labeled assembly with a release mechanism designed to close it in a fire. If it dropped closed by itself, that's the strongest clue. Don't test it, don't reset it, and go to the rolling fire door page.
Do you fix roll-up doors on box trucks?
No. Truck and trailer cargo doors are outside this scope, even though the words are almost identical. This path covers doors mounted on buildings. A truck door needs a vehicle-door specialist.
