The restraint will not engage, or will not release. What now?
This is the call this page exists for, and the two failures are different problems.
It will not engage. Do not rely on a faulted restraint to hold the trailer. Treat the bay as out of use, keep people and forklifts clear, and follow your facility's established process for taking it out of service. Report it as a stop-use condition.
It will not release. The trailer cannot leave. Say that on the call, and say whether anyone is still working inside the trailer. Also report whether a driver is waiting; the provider confirms availability and next steps.
The lights disagree with reality. Inside says one thing, outside says another, or a green light shows with nothing engaged. Treat the indicators as unreliable until it is fixed, and report exactly what each light is showing.
One thing this page will not explain
We will not tell you how to override, bypass or manually release a restraint interlock, and we are not going to publish a workaround that lets the bay keep running while the restraint is faulted.
That is not caution for its own sake. A restraint interlock exists so a forklift is not driving into a trailer that nothing is holding. Working around it moves the risk from an equipment problem to a people problem. If your facility needs to keep that bay running, that decision belongs to your own procedures and your own safety team, not to a web page.

Communication lights, controls and interlocks
If the problem is the moving deck rather than the restraint, use dock leveler repair. If it is the door above the bay, use commercial overhead-door repair. Describe a shared control or interlock problem on the call rather than trying to isolate it yourself.
The lights inside and outside the bay communicate operating status and driver instructions. Their meaning and sequence depend on the restraint or communication system and the facility’s procedure; one color is not independent proof that a trailer is secured. Where fitted, interlocks coordinate the restraint with the leveler or door.
What a qualified provider may look at: the restraint mechanism itself, the control station, the indicator circuits inside and out, the interlock wiring, and how the restraint talks to the leveler or door.
A lighting or interlock fault is a safety issue, not a cosmetic one. If a signal and the restraint’s observed state disagree, follow the facility’s process for taking the bay out of use and report the disagreement without approaching or testing the equipment.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.26 requires that measures such as wheel chocks or sand shoes prevent the transport vehicle from moving while employees are on the dockboard. Is a wheel chock the same as a restraint?
A loose wheel chock is not the same assembly as an installed RIG restraint or a monitored wheel-restraint system. OSHA addresses prevention of vehicle movement; buying one device does not by itself establish compliance. The facility’s safety program must apply the relevant requirements and manufacturer instructions.
The light is green but nothing grabbed. Which do I believe?
