# Data dictionary — The Commercial Door Fault Ledger v2.0.0

**Publisher:** Uptime Dock & Door. **Editorial label:** Uptime Dock & Door Research.
**Compiled and source text checked:** 17 September 2026.
**Canonical reference:** [Commercial garage door troubleshooting](https://uptimedockanddoor.com/research/commercial-overhead-door-problems/).

This is a curated technical reference, not a survey, incident sample, statistical estimate or equipment approval. The five technical tables contain **158 records**. The source register contains **20 records**. **178** is their combined count, not the number of faults or measured doors. Model scope and source edition stay attached to every technical row.

**Missing values:** a blank means not stated or not recorded; it never means zero or proof of absence. A statement such as “Not listed in the checked manual” is narrower than “the manufacturer does not offer it.” “No equivalent verified” is an evidence limitation, not a claim that no equivalent exists.

**Evidence:** source-reported facts come from the named primary material. Symptoms, classifications, observational checks, stop lines and handoff advice include editorial synthesis. No diagnosis is inferred from a symptom alone. Calculated values here are document/record counts, with the explicit input list retained in JSON and the generator.

**Reuse:** no license is asserted. No permission to redistribute third-party manuals, diagrams or protected standards is conveyed. Source documents are not included. This compilation paraphrases and cites selected facts rather than reproducing complete manufacturer charts.

**Version 2 field changes:** ranked-cause fields and repair/clearing instructions have been replaced with non-ranked context, evidence limits and handoff fields. The old binary broken/not-broken field was removed. All technical rows now carry source URLs, locators, editions and verification dates. Two legacy field names (`genie_gcl_gcx_equivalent`, `fire_door_only_term`) remain for portability but their narrower meanings are explicit below.

## symptom-ledger.csv — 38 records

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| symptom_id | Stable S01–S38 identifier; one reference symptom, not one incident. |
| group | Original one-of-seven symptom group; group order does not rank risk or prevalence. |
| symptom_as_people_say_it | Original plain-language symptom wording, retained as a reported observation. It is not a confirmed technical diagnosis. |
| door_types | Equipment categories relevant to the row; narrower manufacturer/controller scope is carried by the source fields. |
| documented_context_not_ranked | Supported context or possible explanation, not a ranked list of causes or a diagnosis of a particular installation. |
| safe_observation | Information to collect from an already safe position or existing records; no new test cycle, enclosure access, bypass or adjustment. |
| what_this_does_not_establish | What cannot be inferred from the symptom, indication or reference branch alone. |
| stop_line | Editorial boundary for observation versus qualified work or emergency escalation; not a complete servicing procedure. |
| evidence_type | Separates source-reported meanings/definitions from our editorial grouping, interpretation, observations and handoff guidance. |
| source_keys | Semicolon-separated keys resolving to sources.csv. A key identifies an actual checked source, not a claim of manufacturer affiliation. |
| source_urls | Semicolon-separated URLs in the same order as source_keys. The register discloses third-party hosting of manufacturer-authored copies. |
| source_locator | Exact named entry, code, page, table or regulatory clause used for the row. Page numbers are printed pages unless otherwise stated. |
| source_editions | Source-key/edition pairs. An unstated edition date stays unstated; the verification date is not substituted for it. |
| last_verified | Date on which the relevant source text was checked, YYYY-MM-DD. It does not establish the current condition of any installation. |

## operator-mode-crosswalk.csv — 7 records

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| mode_code | Mode designation in the named sources. Equal letters do not certify equal behavior across manufacturers. |
| plain_english | Brief orientation to a control mode; exact platform qualifications in adjacent columns govern. |
| what_happens_when_the_close_button_is_released | Short release-behavior description; adjacent named-platform columns retain differences and limits. |
| monitored_entrapment_device | Source-specific protection scope, not a code-compliance approval or instruction to select a mode. |
| liftmaster_logic_5_0 | Applies only to the T, APT, H, J, HJ, GH, GT Logic 5.0 manual identified in sources.csv. |
| manaras_board_070e | Applies to BOARD 070E, BOOK1120 REV8 (2026/07/16). Not every Manaras controller. |
| micanan_smart_10_0 | Applies to the August 2010 PRO-J/PRO-H Smart 10.0 section. Relay logic with an interface module is separately identified where used. |
| genie_gcl_gcx_equivalent | Legacy column name retained for portability. CONTENT IS A LIMITED COMPARISON, NOT AN EQUIVALENCE. No installation or compliance equivalence is certified. |
| source_keys | Semicolon-separated keys resolving to sources.csv. |
It does not establish the current condition of any installation. |
| evidence_type | Separates source-reported meanings/definitions from our editorial grouping, interpretation, observations and handoff guidance. |

## operator-fault-codes.csv — 63 records

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| brand | Publisher/manufacturer named in the source, not a blanket scope covering all of that brand’s products. |
| control_platform | Model/controller/document scope that must be matched before interpreting a message. |
| indicator_type | Which physical or logical indication is described: maintenance/radio/LED/display/behavior. |
| code_or_pattern | Literal identifier or grouped identifiers. Always a string; do not convert numbers, leading zeros or alphanumeric values into numeric data. |
| what_the_operator_is_reporting | Paraphrase of the named manufacturer’s status/message meaning; some entries are normal or maintenance states rather than faults. |
| effect_on_the_door | Documented consequence with scope limits. A status indication is not an inspection or return-to-service decision. |
| what_to_report_or_have_assessed | Editorial handoff or qualified assessment topic, not a repair, clearing, reset, programming or electrical-testing procedure. |
| evidence_type | Separates source-reported meanings/definitions from our editorial grouping, interpretation, observations and handoff guidance. |
| source_keys | Semicolon-separated keys resolving to sources.csv. |

## constant-pressure-cause-tree.csv — 9 records

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| branch | Stable original held-button branch identifier. Nine branches do not represent nine mutually exclusive diagnoses. |
| what_you_are_seeing | Observed pattern, not proof of a failed component or proof of healthy equipment. |
| documented_explanation | Source-grounded interpretation that needs the named controller and installation context. |
| what_this_does_not_establish | What cannot be inferred from the symptom, indication or reference branch alone. |
| safe_information_to_collect | Existing or safely visible information that distinguishes a branch; do not recreate a fault. |
| next_step | Editorial route to the exact manual and appropriate trained personnel, without bypass/repair instructions. |
| evidence_type | Separates source-reported meanings/definitions from our editorial grouping, interpretation, observations and handoff guidance. |
| source_keys | Semicolon-separated keys resolving to sources.csv. |

## name-crosswalk.csv — 41 records

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| what_people_call_it | Plain-language label used to help describe a component, not an empirical search-frequency claim. |
| industry_term | Source-defined trade name or aliases. No part number, replacement compatibility or certification is supplied. |
| door_type | Terminology context; not a complete method to identify a particular installed door. |
| why_the_right_word_matters | Source-grounded explanation of the distinction; not a diagnosis or assembly instruction. |
| fire_door_only_term | Legacy field name: YES means the listed term/combined starred aliases receive DASMA #277’s fire-door asterisk. No means unstarred, NOT that the part cannot occur on a fire door. Governor is unstarred. |
| evidence_type | Separates source-reported meanings/definitions from our editorial grouping, interpretation, observations and handoff guidance. |
| source_keys | Semicolon-separated keys resolving to sources.csv. |
Page numbers are printed pages unless otherwise stated. |

| last_verified | Date on which the relevant source text was checked, YYYY-MM-DD. It does not establish the current condition of any installation. |

## sources.csv — 20 records

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| source_key | Unique register key; technical rows reference it through source_keys. |
| publisher | Issuer of the technical material, not the mirror host. |
| title | Document or rule title, with model/controller scope when necessary. |
| edition_or_revision | Visible edition/revision information, or an explicit statement that a publication date was not stated. |
| url | Actual source URL inspected; manufacturer-authored mirror copies are identified in title/used_sections and the article. |
| date_read | YYYY-MM-DD source-text verification date, not publication date. |
| verification_level | What was actually inspected: relevant primary-source text. It does not claim field testing or a complete visual review of every PDF page. |
| used_sections | Document-level locator guide; the technical row’s source_locator supplies the narrower reference. |

## Calculated counts

- Technical records: 38 + 7 + 63 + 9 + 41 = **158**; register: **20**; total: **178**.
- Ten individual Genie code identifiers whose technician guidance starts with door balance: `39`, `49`, `4B`, `51`, `52`, `59`, `5C`, `5D`, `5E`, `69`. The 39/49/59 force entries are trolley-specific. Grouping several identifiers in one row does not change the individual-code count. This is not a prevalence statistic and is not a DIY balance-test instruction.
- Five YES records in the DASMA #277 starred-term field: Fusible link; Dropout; Flame baffle; Automatic closing device/electromechanical release/magnetic release; Drop test. Governor is not starred. These are terminology records, not a door-identification checklist.

The 63 operator-message records include grouped identifiers, ordinary states, maintenance messages and one behavior entry. They are not 63 unique faults and are not an exhaustive code chart.

## JSON, generator and card

`commercial-door-fault-ledger.json` contains metadata, the six tables, source scope, counts and the explicit derived-count inputs. All CSV cell values remain strings in JSON. A null license means no license is asserted; it is not a public-domain claim.

`build_ledger.py` is a self-contained Python 3 generator. It recreates the six CSVs, aggregate JSON, this dictionary and the fault card. `python3 build_ledger.py --check` compares those nine files with the embedded records without changing them. `--output-dir PATH` writes a separate copy. It makes no network requests and does not publish anything.

`commercial-door-bay-fault-card.txt` records prior observations and safely available information. It contains no powered test, release, adjustment or bypass procedure. Print pagination depends on printer/font settings; this plain-text file is not a guaranteed one-page layout.
