# Data dictionary — The Dock Leveler Repair-or-Replace Ledger, v1.1.0

Compiled by Uptime Dock & Door Research. Source verification date: September 19, 2026.
Page: https://uptimedockanddoor.com/research/dock-leveler-repair-vs-replace/

## What this dataset is

A source-linked classification of 64 dock-leveler findings, each mapped to a decision class, open paths, responsible role, plain-English evidence basis and exact source locator. Companion tables cover published pit dimensions, matched quote scope, service-life and threshold claims, calculator cases and source provenance.

## What it is not

It is not a repair manual, inspection standard, diagnosis, price list, legal opinion, engineering approval or authorization to operate equipment. It provides no hazardous repair procedure.

## Missing-value rule

An empty CSV cell or JSON `null` means **unknown or not applicable**. It never means zero, safe, passed, satisfactory, included or that a source published nothing.

## Evidence labels

- **★ Source-reported** — checked in the cited issuer's own material on the verification date.
- **● Calculated** — computed by Uptime Dock & Door Research from stated verified inputs, with the formula shown.
- **● Uptime synthesis** — a bounded conclusion assembled from the named source set, with the review boundary stated.

None of these labels means independent product testing. A manufacturer statement remains manufacturer-stated.

## Source joins

`source_id` fields join to `dock-leveler-repair-or-replace-sources.csv`. When one record uses more than one source, IDs are separated by the pipe character: `S01|S09`. Pipe-delimited IDs are a relationship field, not free text.

| `verified_date` | ISO date | Date the source was checked |

**Counts by decision class:** Authorized repair 14; Safety / structural — pause use 11; Compliance / safety trigger 9; Pit / civil 9; Application / capacity mismatch 5; Wear part 4; Obsolescence / support 3; Fit for purpose 2; Evidence gap 2; Wear / housekeeping 1; Operating change 1; Context / planning trigger 1; Commercial term 1; Context, not a trigger 1.

The classification is Uptime's editorial work. The rule or manufacturer statement remains attributable to its issuer.

## dock-leveler-crossover-worked-examples.csv — 8 rows

| Field group | Type | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Quote, downtime, maintenance, follow-on and salvage fields | number or null | User-entered illustrative inputs |
| `comparison_horizon_years` | number or null | Positive horizon required for annual break-even output |
| `safety_or_structural_gate_unresolved` | boolean | Blocks an economic decision when true |
| Cost and premium fields | number or null | Calculated outputs |
| `expected_status` | string | `complete`, `incomplete`, `invalid` or `blocked` |
| `reading` | string | Expected plain-language result |

**Formulas**

```text
repair_path_cost = repair_quote
  + (repair_downtime_hours × downtime_cost_per_hour)
  + expected_follow_on_repairs
  + repair_path_maintenance
replacement_path_cost = replacement_quote
  + (replacement_downtime_hours × downtime_cost_per_hour)
  + replacement_path_maintenance
  − documented_salvage
replacement_premium = replacement_path_cost − repair_path_cost
annual_avoidable_cost_to_break_even =
  max(0, replacement_premium) ÷ comparison_horizon_years
```

Every dollar amount is illustrative. No row is a market price or quote. The prior `break_even_added_years` formula and expected-service-life input were removed because they relied on an unsupported service-life assumption.

Fields: `source_id`, `publisher`, `document`, `edition_or_date`, `url`, `retrieval_basis`, `what_it_supports`, `verified_date`.

## dock-leveler-repair-or-replace-data.json

Contains dataset metadata, missing-value and source-ID rules, evidence labels, formulas, coverage counts, headline findings and arrays matching all six public CSV files. Numeric CSV fields are JSON numbers. Empty CSV cells are JSON `null`.
